The Delegation from South Korea bowed down in front of the Korean War Veterans!

The delegation from South Korea who came for the International İstanbul Büyükçekmece Culture and Art Festival paid a loyalty visit to the Korean War Veterans in the district.

When they saw Korean War Veterans Abdulhadi Yeşilkaya and Ekrem Çakır they bowed down and expressed their gratitude, then kissed the veterans’ hands and hugged.

The delegation coming for the festival from Cheonan, the sister city of Büyükçekmece Municipality, visited the Korean War veterans, their relatives and martyrs’ relatives living in the district with Mayor of Büyükçekmece Dr. Hasan Akgün. During the visit, the delegation also gave gifts from South Korea.

‘’Today is a very meaningful day’’

Bringing the South Korean delegation together with the Korean War veterans, Mayor of Büyükçekmece Dr. Hasan Akgün said, ‘’Today is a very meaningful day: They came to our Korean veterans and showed their respect by bowing down in front of them. We had a Project, we discussed it with the delegation, we previously decided on this Project with their mayor. The Korean War veterans’ house here will be built by the Cheonan Municipality in the Korean style, we will build the Turkish martyrs’ house in South Korea on behalf of our martyrs there, and we will put the statue of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Inside the Korean War Veterans House to be built in Büyükçekmece, there will be items, military clothes and materials brought by our Korean War veterans from South Korea. It will be like a small museum, but it means a lot to us, ‘’.

“Our country was able to reach this point thanks to the sacrifices they made’’

Han Gwon Seok, General Manager of Planning and Economy of Cheonan Municipality, who came to visit the Korean veterans, said, ‘’South Korea’s Cheonan Municipality and Büyükçekmece Municipality continue their cultural activities as sister cities. In this context, we visited Büyükçekmece this year. We are happy to be here again this year, and it was very meaningful for us to visit our veterans here today. We are happy to be here. The mayor gave us a very good proposal, we will evaluate this issue among ourselves and we will give the answer as soon as possible. When we see our veterans, all we fell is gratitude, because our country was able to reach this point thanks to the sacrifices they made for us. I also owe my presence here to because of sacrifice they made for us.’’

Korean War veteran Ekrem Çakır said, ‘’I was very pleased that they came here, I felt like I went to Korea, I liked it very much.’’

Abdulhadi Yeşilkaya, a Korean War veteran, said, ‘’I went to Korea, fought there for 2 years and came back here with a medal.”
