Büyükçekmece has 2 more Sister Cities

Mayor of Büyükçekmece Dr. Hasan Akgün signed a sister city protocol with Mayor of Obuda Bekasmegyer Laszlo Kiss from Hungary and Mayor of Djerba Midoun Lassad Hajjam from Tunisia.

The protocols, which took place as a part of the 23rd International Istanbul Büyükçekmece Culture and Art Festival, were signed with a ceremony at the Kemal Sunal Amphitheater with the participation of approximately 5 thousand residents of Büyükçekmece. Mayor of Büyükçekmece Dr. Hasan Akgün, by explaining that Büyükçekmece had 11 sister cities before, said that these relations are carried out especially in the field of culture and art, and are strengthened day by day.

‘’We Command our Endless Respect to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’’

Laszlo Kiss, Mayor of Obuda Bekasmegyer, stated that there is a historical bond between Türkiye and Hungary, and the ties between the people of both countries will become stronger with the signed sister city protocol. At the beginning of his speech, Lassad Hajjam, Mayor of Djerba Midoun commanded his endless respect to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, and said: ‘’Türkiye is not only a neighbor for us, but also a brother country. I wish that the signed protocol will be beneficial for both nations.’’

Consul General of Tunisia in Istanbul Hedi Malek also attended the protocol signing ceremony.
