The same sensitivity is not shown to Syrian immigrants.

Mayor of Büyükçekmece who spoke on the political group meeting of the Council of Europe Local and Regional Authorities stated that Russia is committing massacre, not war. 

Dr. Hasan Akgün who was in Strasbourg, France for the 42nd Session of the Council of Europe Local and Regional Authorities spoke on the Political group meeting comprises from Socialists, Greens and Progressive Democrats.

“There is a matter that I am uncomfortable with as a human”

Mayor Akgün stated that he constantly exchanges information with the Consulate of Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian attack and said that “The Consulate General of Ukraine is located very near to us. We are constantly working together. We are listening their problems. We understand from the requests coming from our sister city that they mostly request medical materials and other urgent materials. 

They requested only 6 trucks of materials to heal wounds and, other medical materials. Then we realized there is more need of materials for women and children, food and hygiene. We work intensively. Then a lot of Ukrainians came and we provided them a place to stay and food. Let me give an example, in our district there are lots of summer houses and hotels. We provided accommodation to women and families. I would like to point out a matter here. There is a matter that I am uncomfortable with as a human. We appreciate and share the sensitivity of our European fellows about the Ukrainian migrants. However, the fact that the same sensitivity is not shown on Syrian immigrants who had to leave their homeland from Syria, where the war has been going on for years, makes us think. Absolutely a huge humanitarian plight is going on in both countries. The biggest victims of this war is particularly elders and children and millions of innocent people. In this framework, our wish from the European fellows to apply standard procedures to people from both countries.
