Mayor Akgün went to Strasburg to attend the 42nd General Assembly.

Mayor of Buyukcekmece Dr. Hasan Akgün, who has been representing Turkey at the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe since 2000 went to Strasburg, France to attend the 42nd General Assembly.

The 42nd session of the Congress will be held between 22-24 March.

Zelensky will address the Congress via Video Conference

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will address the Congress via video conference, and the Congress is expected to publish a notice. On the agenda, also there are reports on the implementation of the European Charter of Local Self-Government in Germany, Luxembourg, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Members of Congress will also consider reports on the observation of recent local elections in Armenia and Georgia, and local and regional elections in Denmark and Morocco. Children's participation in the sustainable development of their cities, democratic pluralism in regional governance, rural youth, the role of local and regional authorities, as well as "Fake news, threats and violence - the pressures on mayors in the current crises in Europe" will be discussed. Also, as in every session since the launch of Congress's "Renewal of Politics" initiative in 2014, youth delegates will participate in the debates.

Mayor Hasan Akgun, who will attend in important sessions and meetings in Strasbourg stated that; “By attending the congress, we exchange ideas with European local administrators on the development of democracy in local governments and human rights. If we want to develop local democracy, everyone has to make an effort in their own country. As the Turkish national delegation, we will actively participate in all activities. At the 42nd General Assembly, we will discuss and discuss significant issues again. The most important of these will be the subject of Russia's attack on Ukraine.
