Büyükçekmece’s 13th Sister City is from Hungary

Mayor of Büyükçekmece, Dr. Hasan Akgün signed sister city agreement with the Mayor of Óbuda - Békásmegyer Dr. László Kiss from Hungary.

Büyükçekmece Municipality that signed 12 sister city agreement with municipalities all around the World, will carry out joint projects in several areas with Óbuda - Békásmegyer Municipality from Budapest, Hungary.

Büyükçekmece Municipality signed sister city agreement with Óbuda – Békásmegyer from Hungary in order to improve the cooperation between local governments, Exchange information and experience about sustainable development, carrying out activities to protect cultural heritage and realization the exchange programs between two countries.

Youth and Non-governmental Organizations Should Carry Out Joint Projects

Dr. Hasan Akgün who spoke at the online ceremony, by reminding the cultural wealth of both Turkey and Hungary coming from the history stated that producing projects realized in the world and the EU before should be the common target of the both cities. Youth of the both countries which have deep cultural background should work together in the areas of culture, art and education. We believe in the importance of civil society organizations within sister city relations. In this case, we mind the establishment of the twinning of the art clubs, sports clubs and schools from both towns. We believe that this cooperation will strengthen us and help us to overcome the difficulties in the pandemic we face together.

We Mind to Strengthen the Ties between Emotions

Dr. László Kiss, Mayor of Óbuda – Békásmegyer, by expressing the warm historical ties between Hungarian and Turkish people said that “our citizens visiting Turkey from Hungary feel the hospitality and warmth of Turkish people. In the lights of our experiences we will realize joint projects. We will not only develop our cooperation while generating common targets and joint projects. The important thing that we value more is to enhance the ties between souls and emotions. We are looking forward to meeting in person as soon as possible in order to realize the joint projects.” After the speeches, the introductory films of Büyükçekmece and Óbuda towns was screened and the sister city agreement was signed.
