Kanuni Sultan Süleyman (Architect Sinan) Bridge

KANUNİ SULTAN SÜLEYMAN (ARCHITECT SİNAN) BRİDGE

It was built by Architect Sinan as it is ordered by Süleyman the Magnificent. Its construction started in 1566 and was completed in 1567 during the reign of Selim II. Great Sinan built a total of 636 meters long and 7 meters wide by binding 4 bridges of different lengths and sizes to each other with artificial islands. This is the appropriate size for two caravans advancing towards each other to pass easily side by side. The limestones used in its construction were bound together with melted lead. It is the only work signed by Chief Architect Great Sinan among all his works.
