The Mayor of Büyükçekmece, Dr. Hasan Akgün, who received the title of “12 Star City” with the ceremony said that “The title of 12 star city is a title worthy of Büyükçekmece. “This award is the work of the people of Büyükçekmece.”
Stating that he was honored to receive the award, Mayor Akgün said; “I received this award thanks to the people of Büyükçekmece. The title of 12 star city, one of the most important activities of the Council of Europe in urbanism and social and cultural fields, is a gift to our people”
Continuing his words, Mayor Akgün said that; “As Büyükçekmece Municipality, we have been awarded as a result of the evaluation of 2012 in the Council of Europe with the projects we have done. We made a presentation at the meeting where the planning of 2013 was also made, and as one of the 4 institutions, we were praised by all council members. I have been in this business for many years. I am dedicated to urbanism. I did my doctorate on urbanism. I do whatever needs to be done in the name of urbanism. Finally, it made me very happy to receive such an award from the Council of Europe with years of experience ”. Mayor Akgün, who received the certificate, stated that the main award will be given at the council meeting to be held in October.

Between 2012-2018, Büyükçekmece Municipality has been awarded the 12 Star European City Award.
