“Smile Philippines” Photography Exhibition opened in Büyükçekmece

The international photography exhibition titled "Smile Philippines", organized with the cooperation of Büyükçekmece Municipality and the Philippines Consulate General in Istanbul, was opened at the Büyükçekmece Municipality Dumlupınar Hall.

Many guests attended the opening ceremony in which  Consul General of the Philippines in Istanbul Arvin de Leon also attended.

The photography exhibition named “Smile Philippines” consists of original photographs from the collection of the Philippines Consulate General in Istanbul. In addition to 16 works of 15 Filipino photographers depicting different aspects of Philippine daily life and culture, traditional Philippine costumes and various materials were also included in the exhibition.

16 works of 15 Filipino artists were exhibited

Arvin de Leon, Consul General of the Philippines in Istanbul, stated that he had previously participated in the International Istanbul Büyükçekmece Culture and Art Festival and had the opportunity to get to know the historical and cultural wealth of Büyükçekmece, and said: “We brought the Philippines to you through the eyes of 15 talented Filipino artists. I ask each of you to take a closer look at each of these 16 original photographs. In some you will see similarities between our cultures, especially in how we live our daily lives. I hope you will take home the stories created by the emotions and memories of the photographs and share them with your family and friends.”

Deputy Mayor Ömer Kazancı stated that they are happy to host the works of the Consul General Arvin de Leon and 15 Filipino photographers. After the speeches, the opening ceremony of the exhibition was held. After the opening ceremony, traditional Philippine cuisine dishes were served to the guests.
