TOPOGRAPHY AND PHYSICAL LOCATION

 

Büyükçekmece district is located on the west side of Istanbul province on the Marmara Sea coast. The district is surrounded by Çatalca and Arnavutköy districts to the north and Esenyurt district to the west, Beylikdüzü district and the Marmara Sea to the south and Silivri district to the west and has an area of ​​16,340 hectares.

 

The district in this location covers 3% of the province of Istanbul. Büyükçekmece is a center of the population which is located around the bay that bears the name of Marmara Sea, and encompassing Büyükçekmece Lagoon and Dam Lake with an area of ​​24.30 km2.

 

Büyükçekmece is one of Istanbul's most important holiday resorts with a clean and well-organized 25 km long coastline, as well as a district that bridges the past to the future with its approach protecting the heritage left by history. n terms of urban planning, it is a district that has solved the problems of settlement, development, infrastructure and environment with the knowledge and experience of urbanization and is a candidate to become a world city with its developing image.

 

Mimarsinan, Kumburgaz, Celaliye, Kamiloba, Tepecik and Muratbey first level municipalities and Pınartepe District of Gürpınar first degree municipality, The part of Kıraç first-tier municipality to the west of Hadımköy Tem Connection Road which are among the first level municipalities whose legal entity status abolished as of 29.03.2009, within the framework of the law on the establishment of districts within the borders of the Metropolitan Municipality and making changes in some laws, numbered 5747, was included into the boundaries of Büyükçekmece Municipality. According to these limits, the total number of neighborhoods in the Büyükçekmece district is 23.

 

The area of the district is 163.40 km2 (139.10 km2 excluding the lake). It is 0-150 meters above sea level. It consists of less rugged terrain and plains. There is no forest within the borders of the district.
